Blue Bioeconomy: The Hidden Potential of Microalage and Cyanobacteria in the High Andean Range


A one week face to face training  in identifying the hidden potential of microalgae and cyanobacteria in the high Andean Range was held place at the Plant and Applied Biotechnology, Agricultural and Environmental Science Faculty (FICAYA),Technical University of the North,   22-26th September, 2025, with the aid of funding from the International Society of Applied Phycology (ISAP). 


The participants were primarily students from the Universidad Técnica del Norte, with others coming from universities in the country's capital, and professors interested in the field also attended.

The aims were:
Understand the fundamental principles of biotechnology applied to microalgae.
Develop skills in microalgae cultivation.
Explore the extraction and valorization processes of bioactive compounds from microalgae.
Evaluate the economic viability of microalgae in biotechnology.
Promote research and development in microalgae biotechnology.
