About the Webinar

The International Society for Applied Phycology (ISAP) is pleased to invite you to a webinar on Opportunities for Land-Based Seaweed Cultivation in the Asia Pacific Region, featuring guest speaker Sven Rusticus, Founder and CEO of Seaweedland.

As demand for seaweed continues to expand across food, nutraceutical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and other high-value sectors, there is increasing interest in production systems that can deliver a reliable, safe, and sustainable supply. While conventional ocean-based seaweed farming has driven significant growth in the sector, challenges such as seasonality, variable quality, contamination risks, and environmental factors continue to impact production.

In this webinar, Sven Rusticus will share insights from Seaweedland's pioneering work in land-based seaweed cultivation and discuss the opportunities for developing this technology across the Asia Pacific region. Participants will gain an understanding of how controlled cultivation systems can support year-round production, improve product consistency and quality, and create new opportunities for sustainable aquaculture development.

The session will also explore Seaweedland's plans to establish a presence in Singapore in 2026 as part of its broader strategy to support the expansion of land-based seaweed cultivation throughout Asia.

Topics to be Covered

  • Global trends driving demand for cultivated seaweed
  • Limitations and challenges of traditional seaweed farming
  • Advantages of land-based cultivation systems
  • Seaweedland's cultivation technology and operational model
  • Commercial opportunities in Asia Pacific markets
  • Partnership, licensing, and investment opportunities
  • Future outlook for sustainable seaweed production

Guest Speaker

Sven Rusticus

Founder & CEO, Seaweedland

Sven Rusticus is the Founder and CEO of Seaweedland, a Dutch company developing innovative land-based seaweed cultivation systems for the production of high-quality, contamination-free seaweed. He holds a degree in Systems and Control Engineering from Delft University and founded Seaweedland in 2022 with the vision of combining technological innovation and sustainability to address future food and environmental challenges.

Under his leadership, Seaweedland has developed controlled cultivation systems that enable year-round production of premium seaweed using saltwater, renewable energy, and resource-efficient technologies. The company currently supplies fresh seaweed to high-end food markets and is expanding into nutraceutical, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical applications.

Seaweedland is also building international partnerships and scaling its activities in the Asia Pacific region through the planned establishment of an office and pilot facility in Singapore in 2026. Through its licensing and partnership model, the company aims to accelerate the adoption of sustainable seaweed cultivation globally.
